The Republic is marking the Phoenix Coyotes’ march through the NHL playoffs with a series of articles about the team and its fans. On Saturdays, get to know the players.

Claim to fame: The young defenseman has had a breakout season. He scored one of three goals and made an assist Wednesday night in the team’s first playoff game against the Detroit Red Wings, helping the Coyotes to a 3-2 victory.

Favorite fast food or takeout meal: I have a great fiancé who cooks for me all the time. But I’d have to say Nick’s Italian in Scottsdale. Chicken parmesan with rigatoni and pink sauce.

Best way to beat the summer heat: Have good air conditioning in your car and your house. And golf early in the morning.

Pregame rituals: I always eat the same thing: chicken, pasta, salad, water and Sprite. (Keeping the same routine) helps you recognize that it’s game day and gets your body ready.

How it felt to make the playoffs: It was a great feeling knowing we were going to the playoffs and would have home ice advantage (for the first game). But it’s not like baseball where you celebrate when you clinch the playoffs. We didn’t have time.
