Natalie Wisneski, the Fiesta Bowl’s former chief operating officer, has been indicted in Arizona federal court for her role in an alleged cover up regarding illegal political contributions by bowl employees and for filing false financial records, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced today.

Wisneski is the first person charged in a wide criminal probe of the bowl, former employees and others associated with the high-profile Bowl Championship Series college football game that will be played Jan. 2.

The nine-count federal grand jury indictment alleges Wisneski, 47, made campaign contributions in the name of another, caused false statements to be made to the Federal Election Commission, filed false tax returns and conspiracy.

The indictment alleges Wisneski solicited campaign contributions from Fiesta Bowl employees for federal, state and local candidates for elective office and arranged to reimburse them for their contributions with Fiesta Bowl money.

She also is charged with filing false tax returns on behalf of the bowl, which is run by four non-profit organizations. She allegedly denied in the returns that the bowl had any lobbying expenses or political expenditures.

Investigators spent the night at a Phoenix home where a body reportedly was found Sunday evening.

Detectives are not releasing much in the way of details, but neighbors said there was significant police presence in the neighborhood of 69th Avenue and Holly Street, which is north of McDowell Road, for several hours.

At 6 a.m. Monday, nearly 12 hours after police first went to the home, there was one patrol car standing guard. It was believed that detectives were awaiting a search warrant to allow them inside the vacant home to continue their investigation.

The initial call regarding a possible body inside the house came in shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday. Early indications are that the body might have been there for quite some time.

Reporting from the scene, 3TV’s Gibby Parra said there was a noticeable stench emanating from the home.

Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department said the body is that of a man in his 40s. The amount of decomposition has made positive identification extremely difficult, but Crump said investigators believe the man was a transient.

While the initial call reported a shooting, indicating a possible homicide, Crump said that turned out not to be the case. He said it looks like the man died of natural causes, but the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office will have to make that determination.

Crump said this is being investigated as an unknown death.

It is the site of a major international airport, a nationally ranked university, and some of the greatest entrepreneurial minds the nation has seen, lending it the accessibility and intellectual prowess of a major city with a good amount of desert charm. As the economy begins to recover from the recent recession, Phoenix’s resilient spirithas inspired a number of industry experts to state that the city’s real estate market, which ranges from residential sectors to AZ commercial lease, is continuing to make a solid comeback.
